z4

So I've been working on my z4 lately and it's coming along. Body is nearly done and is 2,220 tris at the moment. I think I will probably do a high poly bake to get to get the detail and hard edges into the body work. My budget for this one, the stock model, is 20,000.

Chairs

My finished chair and stool, I'm not that pleased with the texturing but then there's not a whole lot I can do with them. I might go back to them in the future...

Reflections...

Did a great little tutorial for the generation of real-time reflections. It's pretty simple to set up and looks really cool! It basically uses a render to texture actor to generate an image that is slapped onto the floor, and is updated in realtime at 1000fps. This means that everything from the rockets from your gun to your player character is reflected on this surface. I highly recommend people try this if you are trying to create a glossy, wet or generally reflective surface.

The texture still needs tweaking and I'm not sure I'll stick with the diffuse material but the principle is there.

Laptop WiP

HP Elitebook, a high performance laptop that will be dotted around my garage. A WiP, still need to to all the side ports.

Computer and peripherals...

Quick update here. A HP desktop computer and microserver, with a logitech keyboard and mouse. Reference and texturing for the keyboard and mouse was easy since they're sat in front of me :) Textures were made in photoshop, and constructed the normals with Xnormal photoshop filter with a bit of high-poly baking, no slapping photos on planes here!

Monitor

So I've dived into making some assets, this widescreen monitor is complete now, also have a 4:3 monitor and a mountable TV on the way. I have also started on my z4 model, will post some shots of that soon...

Over-exposed

Playing about with over exposure in this one. Jack pointed out today that in the '24hrs in 19500 frames' that all the whites in some scenes seemed to blur into one shape and gave it a really glowing look. Most of the night scenes were like this due to the massive amount of artificial light being thrown everywhere. A really cool look.

A darker one...

Another paintover here. I'm liking the cool shadows on this one (took long enough to do), might be quite hard to achieve in unreal though, will have to see. This image is of the version with the wall and door that blocks the whole half off from the other. (as seen in one of my last posts)

Paint over

Another quick paintover. Just messing around with colours and lighting. The Idea of turning the lights out in the computer section to make all the lights stand out and glow is really starting to appeal to me. I'll keep doing these quick paints for this week whilst drawing up a proper asset list and planning my time...

Concept 2

So I've bashed out a second concept paintover. I really like the lighting in this one. It would be nice to create a difference in the lighting between the mechanic and computer sections of the garage. If I am to do this I may need to put a more solid barrier between them two rather than the mesh. Even though the mesh will create some cool shadows it might make everything look a bit messy and covered in squares of light, maybe making the surfaces harder to read.
